The Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley
Upstate New York
When people think of New York they think of big buildings, bright lights, and opportunity. A short trip upstate to the Hudson Valley region of Ulster County will open your eyes to a different side of New York that you may not have known existed. A less populated, more scenic side of the state. In this piece I highlight photos I've taken from the city of Kingston, just 90 miles north of NYC and the surrounding towns of Woodstock and Shokan.
A view from 1500 ft. atop the Overlook Mountain in Woodstock, NY. This is where the 'Hudson Valley' gets its name.
A view from the old Wilbur train bridge overlooking the Rondout district of downtown Kingston, NY. The body of water is the Hudson River which flows all the way from the Adirondack Mountains (nearly 200 miles north of Kingston) and straight down to New York City.
A street level view of Uptown Kingston. This city was the first capital of New York. That is, until the British burned it down in 1777 during The Battle of Saratoga.
One of the buildings that survived was the Senate House originally built in 1676. The house is built out of stone with the exception of the rear wall which is brick.
The Ashokan Resevoir. One of only two reservoirs in the area, it provides water to New York City and is the oldest NYC owned reservoir in the Catskill Mountains, used since 1915.
